About Andrew – Experienced Deer Manager & Ecologist
Andrew was raised in a farming environment, where his passion for hunting and game management began in his early teens. With over 30 years of hands-on experience, he has developed a deep understanding of wildlife conservation, ecology, and sustainable land management.
Now working as a part-time ecologist and conservation manager, Andrew is responsible for managing deer herds across multiple locations throughout the UK. His expertise extends beyond practical fieldwork—he provides specialist advice to landowners, farmers, and individuals on effective and ethical deer population control.
Andrew’s approach combines traditional stalking knowledge with modern ecological principles, ensuring that deer numbers are managed responsibly to protect biodiversity, minimize environmental impact, and maintain healthy, sustainable herds.
Through careful planning and tailored management strategies, he helps landowners balance conservation goals with practical land use, preserving habitats while mitigating damage to woodlands, crops, and fencing.
Whether offering guided stalking experiences, ecological surveys, or strategic deer management plans, Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep respect for nature to every aspect of his work.
The Dale House Deer Ethos
At Dale House, we are committed to maintaining sustainable deer populations, ensuring a healthy balance of individuals within each herd. Without natural predators, deer numbers can quickly grow beyond what the landscape can support, leading to overgrazing, habitat degradation, and damage to farmland, forestry, and fencing.
Our approach to deer management prioritizes both herd health and ecological balance. We carry out selective culling, removing specific animals in a humane and discreet manner to prevent overcrowding, disease, and competition for resources. By focusing on the right individuals—whether due to age, condition, or herd dynamics—we promote stronger, healthier deer populations while protecting the wider ecosystem.
To ensure nothing goes to waste, we process all venison in our on-site meat larder, where carcasses are hung, prepared, and expertly butchered.
Promoting Sustainable Venison
Venison is a nutritious, ethical, and sustainable food source—low in fat, high in protein, and with a minimal carbon footprint. At Dale House, we believe in promoting better understanding and wider consumption of game meat in the UK, encouraging people to embrace this natural, local alternative to intensively farmed meats.
